Chapter 11 - Ava

Ava felt strange.

She and Damien had had sex the night before and her body was feeling things her mind could not translate into words.

She’d been trying to forget the experience but she found it difficult to do so. All she could think about was how much mastery he had over her body. He was the only person she had ever had sex with and yet she knew that no one could have made her feel better than he had last night.

He had been so strong, given how easily he’d lifted her so many times. She imagined those strong arms wrapping around her now and leaving beautiful trails all over her body. She shivered lightly as her imagination washed over her.

Her body could still remember his sweet kisses and his wonderful embrace. She was awash with memories of riding his tongue to ecstasy and of his hard cock pushing into her deliciously. She felt like a teenage girl who had just kissed her crush and then spent hours in her bedroom thinking about it.

The sweet memories of their embrace were ruined by the memory of their argument. It had turned a beautiful experience into a bad night for her. She couldn’t believe how quickly everything had turned sour. She wished they could go back and have a do-over but she doubted it would have ended any differently.

When he had asked her about the mark, Ava had felt too vulnerable to answer. She had thought endlessly of what she would say if he ever saw it, but none of her thinking had prepared her for the actual moment. It was like her head had gone blank with the fear of rejection she had felt from the first time he rejected her.

Ava had frozen. She hadn’t known how to answer it, so she put a wall between them. Ava thought by now she would have healed from his abandonment all those years ago, but feelings like those could easily surface again. Especially when the man who had rejected her turned out to be her mate. She didn’t know whether he would reject her again or not, and the sex wasn’t proof of anything either. It seemed like a repeat of the last time. A budding romance that would build into devastating pain.

Ava hadn’t known how vulnerable she was until she was put in the position of having to answer that question. How could she tell him that he was her mate? A part of her had been very tempted to tell him but she knew that it would only create a rift between them. But in the end that had happened anyway, so she might as well have told him about it.

Ava had lied and acted as if her mate was someone else instead of Damien, and when he hadn’t bothered to ask her about it, it had come as a relief to her. She just hadn’t expected him to blow up the way he did. Getting angry and threatening to kill her mate was not something she had expected at all.
